Chef Wars Hit New Jersey

Forget Bravo's Top Chef, who's going to be Jersey's top chef?

Pack your knives and go... across the bridge to help choose who is going to win the South Jersey's Chef Wars. SJ Hot Chefs, a restaurant industry trade group, is sponsoring this homegrown culinary competition, which pits local chefs against each other to see who can prepare the best four-course meal using the same main ingredients.

In this chef throwdown, it's not Tom, Padma or Gail who chooses the best chef, but the guests. Anyone who wants to fork over $40 can attend the event. Guests are treated to a four-course meal with two dishes per course and the right to cast their vote for the best chef; the winner advances to the next round to battle another local chef. Whoever wins the ultimate round will win the right to call himself South Jersey's best chef.

The first chef challenge takes place Sunday, May 31 at 5:30 p.m. at Bacio restaurant in Cinnaminson. The contenders are chef Ted Iwachi of Ted's on Main versus chef Rob Minnitti of Bacio and the ingredients for each course are crabmeat for the appetizer, pasta for the first course, quail for the entree and strawberries for dessert.
