Bloktoberfest: Food, Beer & the Walkmen

The third annual Bloktoberfest will be taking place from noon until 8 p.m. this Saturday on South Street. Stretching from Broad Street to 17th, this year's festival is the biggest yet featuring great beer and food, and a music performance from The Walkmen. Entrance to the event is free, and includes fun stuff for the kids.

The real reason you're going is to eat and drink, and the convoy of local food trucks should help keep your stomach full the entire day. Expect to see the familiar faces of the Nomad Pizza crew, Sweetbox Cupcakes, The Sweet Truck, Dapper Dog, Say Cheese!, and Chewy's on the mobile front. Neighborhood brick-and-mortar spots like The Jamaican Jerk Hut, Pumpkin, Jet Wine Bar, Sweet Freedom, and the just-popped Sawatdee will be slinging hash for the masses, as well.

The boys at Bella Vista Distributors will be providing kegs from their extensive portfolio of craft brews, and are hosting special "Express Beer Areas" to minimize the waiting for those in need. Purchasing beers will be done via a ticketing system that doesn't include refunds, so gird your liver for a workout.

What really breaks our heart, though, is that Bloktoberfest usually alerts us to the impending chill, which ends the block party season in South Philly. If you enjoy inner-city outdoor public drinking, we suggest you make an appearance, because it won't be tolerated again until December 31. [The Feast]
