Worth the Trip: Celebrate ‘Christmas in July' on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Has the summer heat gotten a bit overwhelming? Put yourself in a wintry mindset and come down to the Eakins Oval to celebrate Christmas in July!

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation announced that Friday's "Christmas in July" event will kick off the summer's "Food and Flicks" series, which features themed movie nights, live musical performances, food trucks and a seasonal beer garden.

"Christmas in July" will start at noon with the opening of a synthetic ice rink. For just $5, you can rent a pair of skates and get 20 minutes on the ice. The rink will be open throughout the weekend from noon to 7 p.m.

The main events start at 5 p.m., with food trucks and the Visit Philly Happy Hour beer garden, with $4 Yards/Victory beers. DJ Royale will be entertaining attendees from 5 to 8 p.m., and will be followed by EBE Entertainment Christmas Song Singers. Don't forget to take your picture with Summer Santa.

At 9 p.m., the night concludes with a screening of the hit Christmas movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell.

The Eakins Oval is located at 2451 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Visit the "Christmas in July" Facebook page for more information on Friday's event and the rest of the "Food and Flicks" series.
