Katy Zachry is a reporter and fill-in anchor for NBC10. You can watch her weekday mornings on NBC10 News Today at 4 AM, 5 AM, 6 AM and 11 AM.
“As a reporter, every day is something new,” says Katy. “A new story to cover, new people to meet, a new concern in the community to expose. I like the responsibility of informing people about the good and the bad. There’s a thrill to being on a scene, getting new information first, and relaying it right then to our viewers.”
Katy’s favorite part of covering the greater Philadelphia area is that she’s back working in the area where she grew up. She’s from Washington Crossing, Bucks County and attended schools in the Council Rock School District. She still has family in the area and enjoys visiting.
One of her most important assignments at NBC 10 was when she spent long days covering the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal at Penn State. Katy spent weeks in State College reporting on the arrest, the trial, and Sandusky’s conviction. She was one of several reporters who earned an Emmy award for coverage of the story.
Prior to joining NBC10, Katy graduated from Bucknell University where she studied geography and religion. Throughout college, she spent semesters and summers interning at places like WHYY in Philadelphia, SKY News in London, and WHTM in Harrisburg. She also worked at news stations in Roswell and Albuquerque, New Mexico and in Hartford, Connecticut.
Katy is a proud board member of Students Run Philly Style, an organization that pairs over 1,000 city students with running mentors who, through race training, help students improve their grades, health, and lifestyle.
Katy and her husband live in suburban Philadelphia where they’re raising 3 young girls. Katy loves being a mom, which consumes most of her times these days. She also enjoys spending time outside, being active, and traveling with her family
