Storms Threaten Tuesday Afternoon, Evening

First Alert issued for Philly, Pa. suburbs & Lehigh Valley

The NBC10 First Alert Weather Team issued a First Alert for the threat of passing severe storms Tuesday afternoon into evening for Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania suburbs, Berks County and the Lehigh Valley.

A Flash Flood Warning was in effect for Berks County until 9:15 p.m. while a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was also in effect for Philadelphia, Montgomery, Northampton, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh and Berks counties until 9 p.m.

The storms – packing potentially heavy pockets of rain and damaging winds – moved from west to east, meteorologist Krystal Klei said. Some rain and isolated storms continued into the overnight.

Temperatures Tuesday rose to the mid and upper 80s, warmer than average for this time of year. It was windy Tuesday as well, and by late Tuesday afternoon showers and thunderstorms entered the northern and western edges of the region.

The storms became strong to severe over parts of the Lehigh Valley and Berks County, and then spread to Philadelphia between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The storms progressed across the rest of the region through the night.

Wednesday showers and spotty thunderstorms will continue across the region with much cooler highs in the mid-70s.
