Comcast Expands Internet Essentials Per Deal With Philly

It took several months of back-and-forth before Comcast and Philadelphia finalized their new 15-year franchise agreement, which included grinding out a commitment to expand its low-cost Internet Essentials program in the city.

On Thursday, Comcast came through on that piece of the deal – expanding the high-speed Internet service for low-income families to approximately 5,000 address in Philadelphia.

It's the eighth time in five years Comcast has expanded eligibility for Internet Essentials. The mass media giant sowed some discontent in Philadelphia as it had passed over its hometown prior to its new franchise agreement, rolling out its pilot in a Florida city and San Francisco.
