It's rare that a player stays at Triple A long enough to compile the sort of numbers Rhys Hoskins did for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs this season and on Tuesday he was honored for it, claiming the International League MVP and Rookie of the Year awards.
Hoskins is the first International Leaguer to claim both awards since Steven Souza Jr. in 2014.
In 115 games with LHV, Hoskins hit .284/.385/.581 with 29 home runs and 91 RBIs.
Most remarkably, he's been even better in the majors, entering Tuesday's doubleheader with a .309/.413/.824 batting line, 11 homers and 25 RBIs in 19 games.
Hoskins has taken the majors by storm, and he entered Tuesday with a six-game streak with at least one extra-base hit and RBI. It matches the longest streak by any major-leaguer since the start of 2016, and only two Phillies since 1950 (Bobby Abreu and Chase Utley) have had longer streaks.
Hoskins has also adapted capably to left field, where he's started 16 of his 19 games. He still likely projects as a first baseman long term and will see some more reps at the position when Odubel Herrera and Aaron Altherr return from the DL on Friday.
