Phillies Couldn't Dodge Loss

Phils fall to Dodgers 15-9

It was just one of those nights -- the Dodgers wouldn't be denied.

Leaving a trail of 18 hits in their wake, the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday night by a score of 15-9.

But the game wasn't a total blowout. Trailing 7-0 in the fifth inning, the Phils scored four runs off of former Phillie Vicente Padilla behind the first of Ross Gload's two, two-run shots.

But reliever David Hernon failed to deliver a shut-down inning, and the Dodgers scored another four runs in the sixth.

The Dodgers never looked back and cruised to a 15-9 victory while tallying the most hits they've had all season.

"We got so far behind it was hard to catch up,'' Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "Our guys swung the bats well, but we couldn't stop them.''

One bright spot came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Dominic Brown hit his first major league homerun.

The Phils will try to tame the Dodgers Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park.
