Backup quaterback Kevin Kolb was great Sunday.
Michael Vick finally played for the Eagles but another quarterback stole the show Sunday.
Kevin Kolb went 24-for-34 for 327 yards, two scores and no interceptions as he carried the Eagles to a 34-14 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
His favorite targets were DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek who both broke the 100-yard mark.
Jackson caught six balls for a career-high 149 yards. He also made a dazzling over-the-middle catch and run for a 64-yard score. It all added up to be a game for the record books and a Phil Sheridan column on Kolb becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 300 yards in his first two starts.
Celek hauled in eight balls for 104 yards and a 35-yard touchdown that put the Birds up 34-7 in the fourth quarter.
Kolb, only making his second-career start, also sneaked in a score for the Eagles.
Also running one in for the Birds was LeSean “Shady” McCoy.
Shady, making his first-career start, carried the load for Philly rushing 20 times for 84 yards and a TD. He also ran some plays out of the Wildcat formation.
Vick got on the field but only managed seven yards of rushing and was 0-for-2 passing.
The Eagles defense put in a nice game. They stopped the Chiefs rushing attack and held Chiefs’ QB Matt Cassel to just 90 yards passing while consistently hassling him in the pocket and earning three sacks.
The Birds also improved in two areas that killed them last week against New Orleans. They committed only three penalties for 20 yards while playing solid special teams.
Next up for the Birds is the much needed bye week. The two-week hiatus should allow starting QB Donovan McNabb, running back Brian Westbrook and wide receiver Kevin Curtis time to recover from injuries that kept them out against the Chiefs.
