Dionte Christmas takes part in practice on the eve of the first round of the Men's NCAA Basketball East Region at the Pepsi Center on March 19, 2008 in Denver, Colorado.
Former Temple University basketball standout Dionte Christmas was arrested in North Philadelphia Thursday night, according to police.
The arrest came a day after he was cut from the Philadelphia 76ers practice squad.
Officials said Christmas was driving erratically along Nedro Avenue near Broad Street around 7:30 p.m. when he was stopped by a Highway Patrol officer.
Christmas was driving without a license and officers found a loaded .9mm handgun hidden under the drivers seat.
The car and gun were later found to be registered to Sixers forward Marreese Speights.
Christmas was charged with misdemeanor weapons offenses early Friday morning, police said. He has since posted bail and was released from the 35th District around 6:20 a.m.
