Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The onions are a product of Gill Onions, LLC, which initiated a recall of the onions on July 18, and were supplied to Wegmans by Primo Produce of Allentown, PA.

Consumers who may still have these products in their refrigerator or freezer should discard them and return to the service desk for a refund.  Consumers with questions or concerns, can contact Wegmans at (800) 934-6267, and ask for consumer affairs, M – F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
