Officials in two shore towns want New Jersey to stop letting seasonal workers receive unemployment benefits after the summer ends.
Officials in Cape May Point and Cape May City say the cost is high for their communities.
The mayors say lifeguards, badge checkers, extra police officers and other seasonal public employees know when they get their positions that they'll end around Labor Day.
Both towns have adopted resolutions calling for the state to end the practice.
Rutgers Professor Jeff Keefe tells The Star-Ledger the amount towns pay in unemployment benefit is small compared to the how much the towns take in from summertime tourists.
