Trial Ordered for Woman in Mother's Shooting Death

A central Pennsylvania woman has been ordered to stand trial in the shooting death of her 71-year-old mother last month.

Forty-eight-year-old Tracy Stephenson is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and a firearms count in the Nov. 19 death of Barbara Elias.

The (Altoona) Mirror reports that a district judge ruled Friday that prosecutors have enough evidence for the case to move to county court.

The paper said court records indicate that the defendant called 911 to report hearing voices and seeing prowlers a week before the shooting.

A detective testified that following her arrest, Stephenson accused her mother of poisoning her and harassing her.

Assistant Public Defender Jason Imler declined to say whether his client's mental condition would figure in his defense, saying "We're weighing all options."
