Student Dressed as Spider-Man Tries to Commit Robbery

The University of Pittsburgh student is described as a Spider-Man enthusiast

Pittsburgh police say they nabbed a student dressed as Spider-Man acting more like a villain and charged him with trying to rob a convenience store.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that 21-year-old University of Pittsburgh finance and economic major Jonathan Hewson was arrested after officers broadcast his description.

Hewson is accused of walking into the store in the city's Oakland neighborhood early Friday and asking "How much money you got?"

Police say the store clerk tried to fire a stun gun at the costumed man, who fled. Hewson was arrested a block away.

Hewson's roommate Chris Esposito tells KDKA-TV it's a misunderstanding, describing Hewson as a Spider-Man enthusiast.

Spider-Man was created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee, making his first appearance in Marvel's "Amazing Fantasy" No. 15 in 1962.
