Police are investigating vandalism that damaged a Sept. 11 memorial outside a fire station in Delaware County, Pa.
Clifton Heights Fire Company President Harry Kent tells the Delaware County Daily Times it appears someone tried to use a knife or rock to scratch the base of the small monument outside the borough fire station.
The memorial is made from a piece of steel recovered from the World Trade Center site, mounted on a replica of the twin towers, on top of a base shaped like the Pentagon. The dedication plate is in the shape of the state of Pennsylvania.
The Daily Times report says a formal dedication is planned for the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Kent says plans to repair the damage are on hold until after the ceremony.
Police are investigating.
