Wildlife biologists in Pennsylvania are looking for some help counting Appalachian bats.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says in a release Thursday that the summer bat count will help scientists determine the impact of White-Nose Syndrome, a disease that has been killing off millions of bats in northeastern and central states.
The Game Commission says Scout groups, 4-H clubs, local environmental organizations, and individual homeowners can all participate in the bat count. Pennsylvania's two most common bat species, the little brown bat and the big brown bat, use buildings as a place for females to raise their young during the summer.
