The death last month of a 19-year-old Rutgers student who attended a fraternity house gathering has been ruled accidental, authorities say.
Caitlyn Kovacs died on Sept. 21 after attending the house party on College Avenue, Middlesex County prosecutors said.
She "became distressed" while at the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity house in New Brunswick, authorities said at the time. Some friends took her to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The medical examiner's office said Monday that after getting toxicology test results, it was determined that Kovacs died from acute ethanol toxicity.
Kovacs, a South Brunswick resident, was a sophomore at the university's School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and was majoring in animal sciences.
Prosecutors are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to contact either campus or New Brunswick police, or the prosecutor's office.
