So you've heard the one about walking five miles to school, up hill both ways?

How about the kids who canoed their way to class?

It's the way seniors at Doane Academy start their first day of school every year. The tradition began 10 years ago when the headmaster took the senior class on a journey that includes hiking, biking, kayaking and that ended with the canoe-to-school up the Delaware River.

Each year the senior class is met by the entire school and parents when they arrive at school on the riverbank in Burlington, New Jersey.

"Accompanied by the harmonious strains of bagpipes, the seniors' arrival is both exciting and moving, as they and their families begin to realize that this is the beginning of the end of their time as students at Doane Academy," the school's website explains.

This year's senior class has 28 students.
