Realtor Falls From Fire Escape, Dies

Police say a real estate agent in Asbury Park fell to his death from a ninth-floor fire escape on the building where he lived.

Police are investigating what led to Jay Bernstein's death.

Police Capt. Marshawn Love tells the Asbury Park Press it doesn't appear to be suspicious and it was a very windy day on Sunday when Bernstein fell from the Santander condos.

Bernstein worked for the John C. Conover Agency and has lived in Asbury since 1999. Friends remembered him as being passionate about his town.

“He just wanted to make (Asbury Park) a better place so people would buy houses and want to live here,” Councilwoman Sue Henderson told the paper.
