125-Year-Old Piano Company Closing Germantown Avenue Location, Opening KoP Spot

One of the oldest piano companies in the world located in Philadelphia will shutter its showroom to relocate, and it will open a second, new location in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Cunningham Piano, founded in 1891, for the first 50 years of its existence built pianos by hand in Philadelphia, and in 1943 added rebuilding and restoration services.

The company, which carries and restores well-known piano brands like Yamaha, Steinway, Bรถsendorfer and its own Cunningham Piano, has become a go-to company for pianists and organists around the globe. But the company's owners decided it was time to relocate from 5427 Germantown Ave. in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, to a more centralized, accessible area.

"When I first started in this business in the 1980's, ... people knew Germantown. Now their kids are looking for pianos, and they grew up in Blue Bell, and a trip to Philadelphia is a decision they have to make," said Rich Galassini, who's owned the company since 2008 with Tim Oliver.
