Philly Cartoonist Lands on the NRA's 'Enemies List'

While most journalists wouldn’t be too pleased with drawing the ire of the National Rifle Association, one local cartoonist considers it an honor.

Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Tony Auth is now on the NRA’s enemies list due to his politically charged cartoons criticizing the organization.

Back in September, the NRA first posted a list of organizations, celebrities and journalists who have either attacked them or endorsed gun control laws.  Auth, a former cartoonist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, recently made the list and is the only Philadelphia journalist to do so. Auth told Joe Strupp of Media Matters that he was more than happy to make the list:

If you believe that this country's relationship with guns is insane and you want to do something about it, of course you would want to be on the NRA's enemies list. If you want gun control and of course you would want to be on this list. The NRA is so wrong-headed and obtuse. It reminds me of Nixon's enemies list. It is not intimidating. Another reflection of the world we live in where people live in their own bubble and look at opinions they agree with.

Auth currently works for WHYY/NewsWorks.org, a media partner of NBC10.
