Teacher's Aide in Nude Photo Resigns

Board member says aide did no wrong, but officials asked aide to resign

A Bangor Area School District teacher’s aide who's nude photo has been circulating among the student population resigned Wednesday after school officials asked her to.

Someone took the young woman’s cell phone, which had a naked picture of her on it, while she was at a social function off school property and then forwarded the photo to everyone on the aide’s contact list, school board member Ron Angle. The photo was then distributed to students.

District officials notified parents of the situation in an automated phone message, asking the parents of student in grades 7 and up to check their kids’ cell phones for the image.

District Superintendent John Reinhart told the Express Times that the woman was asked to resign Wednesday, and the unnamed aide gave notice of her resignation soon after.

“Her work here with our students has been satisfactory. She’s shown dedication to her job and the students she works with. But this lapse in judgment requires her to resign,” Reinhart told the Express Times.

Angle said that she didn’t do anything wrong but it showed bad judgment and her resignation would save herself a lot of trouble.

“When you’re in a sensitive position, when there’s hundreds and thousands of students around, you shouldn’t have them things on your phone,” Angle said to the Express Times.

District officials have not released the name of the teacher’s aide in question but said that she is a district graduate and six-year employee. Neither police not the district attorney’s office is investigating the incident.

This is the second time in less than a month in which a young teacher in the district has been involved in scandalous actions. Gina Lynn Riso, a high school biology teacher, was found dead in a Bethlehem apartment on Dec. 10. In the apartment was heroin and drug paraphernalia.
