NJ Father Admits Smothering Infant Son: Prosecutor

The father put a pillow over his son's face to stop him from crying, according to investigators.

A South Jersey man admitted smothering his infant son to death. Eric D. Griffin, 26, pleaded guilty on Tuesday.

In November of 2010, Griffin, who is from Burlington City, put a pillow over his four-week-old's face to stop him from crying, according to investigators. When Nyir Griffin quieted down, his father removed the pillow and discovered that Nyir wasn't breathing, according to court documents. At that point, Griffin left the house.

Nyir's maternal grandmother found the infant and tried to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Griffin agreed to plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter in exchange for a 12-year prison term.
