The digital currency Bitcoin — which was highly lauded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss of Facebook lore — is expanding further into Philadelphia thanks to a new ATM.
Coinsource, a Bitcoin ATM network, will set up a machine at the Philly Dream Shop on 254 South St., where it will be accessible between 10:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and as late as 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. One Bitcoin, or BTC, equals approximately $435.86.
While Bitcoin has always been a volatile currency, it does offer advantages. It's basically a form of digital cash that can be transferred between people without going through a bank, thus lowering their fees and diversifying their appeal. Bitcoin can be used to purchase any good as long as the vendor accepts it.
