Roy Love, 79, and his wife, Helene, 75, were crossing the median to the west side of Route 1 southbound when they stepped out into the left lane and were hit by O’Connor’s car.

The couple was taken to Beebe Medical Center where Roy was pronounced dead. Helene Love was  airlifted to Christiana Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.

O'Connor, 25, was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and released.  More charges may be forthcoming upon completion of the investigation, according to police.
