Man Attacks, Rapes Woman at Center City SEPTA Station: Police

Police have released a surveillance photo of a man accused of raping a woman at a Center City SEPTA station Monday.

The 27-year-old woman was trying to get home when she entered the concourse of the Jefferson Station at 10th and Filbert streets Monday around 1 p.m.

Investigators said she was lost while trying to get to Northeast Philadelphia when she spotted the suspect and asked him for directions.

The suspect then walked the woman into the track area before pulling her into a secluded area where he beat, kicked and sexually assaulted her, police said. He then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Police initially told NBC10 they believed the victim knew the suspect. On Tuesday however, officials with the Special Victim's Unit told NBC10 the victim did not know him.

The suspect is wanted for rape and aggravated assault. He is described as a man between the ages of 25 and 28, standing between 5-foot-10 and 5-foot-11 and weighing 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black coat with silver trim, a red and white scarf, black knit hat, black jeans and grey sneakers. He was also carrying a red backpack.
