Mourners are set to gather to pay their respects to a 13-year-old Newark girl who became one of the latest to succumb to a wave of violence in New Jersey's largest city.
A funeral service for honors student Zainee Hailey is to be held Wednesday morning in Elizabeth.
Hailey was fatally shot on Christmas night as she was taking out the trash at her family's house on Schley Street in Newark's South Ward around 10 p.m. She had just returned home from her grandfather's house in Elizabeth where she had opened Christmas presents.
Another teen, 15-year-old Kasson Morman, was killed in the same shooting and a third teen was seriously injured.
Newark will end 2013 with more than 100 murders, the most since 2006.
