Final Council Vote on Property Tax Hike

A final city council vote on a property tax hike is expected to take place today. Its all part of the council's efforts to close the massive budget gap facing the Philadelphia school district.

A final city council vote is expected to take place on Thursday on a plan that would raise property taxes by 3.85 percent for one year.

The council preliminarily approved the tax hike back on June 16.

They also approved a plan to raise parking in Center City from $2.00 an hour to $2.50 an hour as well as University City parking from $1.50 an hour to $2.00 an hour.

Its all part of the council’s efforts to close a $629 million budget gap facing the Philadelphia school district.

The district is expected to receive $52.5 million in all from the council.
