Police Honor Dead K-9 as Hero

A longtime member of the West Deptford Police Department was laid to rest Friday following complications from Cushings Disease.

Judge, a 9-year-old German Shepherd, served as a valued member of the West Deptford Police from 2007 until he retired in August 2013 due to health issues. He was later diagnosed with Cushings, which caused vomiting, hair loss and bleeding.

β€œHe was a valued member of the police department, and his work on the street and in the community was second to none," said a department representative.

During a ceremony held Friday, Feb. 20, officers and K-9 units from all over South Jersey paid their respects to an β€œexceptional police dog.”

β€œHe was a true asset to our department and will be forever missed. RIP Judge, gone but never forgotten,” a post on the department's Facebook page said.

Throughout his seven year career, Judge was deployed more than 280 times and assisted in 152 arrests, seized vehicles, handguns, drugs and more than $47,000 of illegal currency.
