Delaware Teen Dies in High-Speed Crash

Alcohol and speed are factors in a one-car crash that killed a Delaware teenager early Thursday, according to Delaware State Police.

Benadigto Bonilla-Berduo, 19, was speeding in a 2002 Volkswagen GTI on U.S. Route 9 in Georgetown when he lost control of his car just after 1 a.m. Thursday.

The teen's car then crossed into the oncoming traffic and left the roadway before he overcorrected, leaving the opposite lanes and sending his car spinning, police said.

The then car hit a utility pole, snapping it in half and sending the car into the air before it landed upside down. Police say the teen wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

He was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

Alcohol and speed were factors in crash, according to officials.

Rt. 9 was closed for nearly three hours while crews worked to restore power and the crash was investigated and cleared.
