Christie to Endorse Republican Nominee for Senate

Gov. Chris Christie says he anticipates endorsing the Republican candidate in the special U.S. Senate election being staged in October.

Christie said Wednesday that he will support either Republican who wins an Aug. 13 primary. The GOP race is between former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan and Piscataway physician Alieta Eck.

Christie will offer the primary winner his help in campaigning. But how much help he gives will depend on his own race - Christie is seeking a second term in November.

The Republican candidate will vie to serve the last 15 months of the term of Frank Lautenberg, who died in June.

Four Democrats are running in the primary, including Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver. Representatives Frank Pallone and Rush Holt are also seeking the nomination.
