Cape May City and County Argue Over Police Monitors

The city of Cape May wants the county prosecutor to end what it believes has been a takeover of its police department.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that city attorney Todd Gelfand told Judge J. Christopher Gibson a county prosecutor has designated a person to monitor the city's police department.

Gelfand says the move amounts to a "hostile takeover." Prosecutor Robert Taylor says the monitor was there to ensure the integrity of a county investigation into compensatory time taken by an officer.

Gelfand argues the liaison is complicating lines of communication.

Gibson did not rule on the issue but said he would soon.
