$400K Award Adds Another Shuttle to Navy Yard Service

A $416,000 award from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission will ease commute wait times for some of the 12,000 workers heading to the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia each workday.

The DVRPC grant is part of the competitive Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program. The CMAQ grant went towards the PIDC, the city's public-private economic development corporation, which in turn dedicated the funds to expanding the Navy Yard's shuttle service.

"It gives members of our community another choice about how to get to work, which reduces traffic and impact on the environment," said Prema Gupta, PIDC’s senior vice president for Navy Yard Planning, Development, and Operations, in a statement. "We’ve heard the call for more accessibility to and from the Navy Yard, and we believe this is another big step in the growth and development of that process."

The CMAQ program is focused on funding projects that improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion.
