Man Dead, Woman Shot in Attempted Murder-Suicide: Prosecutors

Woman's children inside the home at the time of the shooting, police say

A man was dead and a woman was badly injured in what Gloucester County officials believe was an attempted murder-suicide early Wednesday.

Authorities were called to the house on the 100 block of Barker Avenue in Logan Township around 1:50 a.m., according to Logan Township Police.

They found Thomas Gillespie, 48, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and his 47-year-old girlfriend suffering from gunshot wound to the head, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

The unidentified woman was rushed to Crozer Chester Medical Center where she was listed in critical but stable condition Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

It was unclear what led to the shooting in the living room of the home the couple moved into about a year ago. There is no history of violence at the home and police say they had never been to the home before.

The woman’s two daughters (10 and 13 years old) from an earlier marriage were on the second-floor of the home at the time of the shooting -- they were unharmed, police said.

The girls were put in the custody of their biological father, according to authorities.

A bullet from the incident did hit the roof of a neighbor's home but no one in that house was hurt, cops said.

A 38-caliber handgun was recovered in the home, prosecutors said.
