Jeannie! Shauna! Jennifer Grey Coming To “House”

Most people remember Jennifer Grey as Baby in “Dirty Dancing,” but I’ll always remember her as Jeannie from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” No one did teenage female bitterness better. She was very alone, and very cute, and very protective of her body. Now, a quarter of a century later, Grey is bringing that delightful sarcastic streak to a place where it will be most welcome: “House.” No word on if Principal Rooney breaks into her hospital room. Michael Ausiello at EW reports:

Grey—who begins work on the House set today—will play Abbey, the mother of an infant daughter who is displaying signs of a life-threatening illness. As House and Co. investigate her daughter’s developing symptoms, Abbey is faced with a treatment decision for her newborn that could affect not only her baby’s life but her own.

Her episode is scheduled to air in mid-October.

“House” has had its fair share of notable guest stars over the years, including David Straithairn, John Larroquette, LL Cool J, and plenty of others. Most of them are underutilized. Like an interviewee on “The Colbert Report,” guest patients on “House” are mainly there to act as the foil for Hugh Laurie to do his thing. I’m hoping Grey gets to do a little bit more than just sit there and take crap from House. And I’m hoping her job will entail more than making the junior docs like Foreman question how they do business. I’d like to see a little bit of Jeannie in there, ready at a moment’s notice to tell House where he should put his thumb. House needs that kind of feedback from time to time.
