Red Carpet Recap: New Year's Eve

The New Year is here. How did you ring it in? Perhaps you got dolled up and went to a NYE party. Hope it was a blast! Or if you are like me, you opted to stay in. We went to the Poconos where it snowed like crazy. When the ball dropped, we were sitting in front of a roaring fire, playing charades. It doesn’t sound very glamorous, but it was wonderful.

We got to sit and watch all of the different New Year’s Eve specials and check out what the celebrities chose to wear. I’m not sure if there is a rule that you have to choose something ridiculous for New Year’s Eve, but that’s what the trend seemed to be. Here are a few highlights:

Jennifer Lopez performed on stage in Times Square. She wore a cat suit of sorts, or a full-body leotard. For most of her performance, she wore a fur coat with serious trim over the body suit. The coat over it looked okay, but eventually, she took off the coat. The body suit had some sheen to it, and just the suit was a little much. After her performance, when she was standing and talking with Ryan Seacrest, she wore a full length fur coat. We were glad to see the cat suit covered up!

Vanessa Minnillo wore a black full-length gown with beading at the top and a feather-covered skirt. Over her dress she wore a stark, bright white fur wrap. The sleeves were three-quarter length, which exposed her white satin opera gloves. She had her hair pulled back into a tight, large, high bun of sorts. She is a beautiful person, so she looked naturally pretty, but her outfit looked like she was playing dress up with her grandmother’s clothes. The ensemble was simple way too old for her, or like she was going to the opera. She looked a little too over the top and dramatic. Perhaps if the jacket was black, too, the contrast would not have been so great.

Nicole Richie attended a New Year’s Eve event hosted by Christina Aguilera at TAO at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Aguilera looked attractive (love her new bob haircut!) but Nicole Richie looked a little odd. In fact, I didn’t even recognize her at first. Her new dark hair caught me off guard; I am not used to seeing her as a brunette. And her outfit looked like a top that an older woman might wear, which Richie wore as a dress with a pair of black opaque tights. The top/dress was basically, a long sleeve, high-neck gold sequinced top that hit Richie well above the knee. The top had no real fit to it – it just hung like a large top. Her opaque tights were dull and the top was so shiny, they didn’t seem to go. Her legs looked super thin; she certainly recovers quickly from having kids!

No matter what you did (or what you wore) this New Year’s Eve, best wishes for a happy and healthy 2010!
