Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in true Mexican style at one of Philly’s top restaurants with authentic dishes, great music and plenty of tasty tequila.
Jose Garces’ acclaimed restaurant Distrito, located on Chestnut Street in University City, will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5 where guests will dine on affordable food from the restaurant’s delicious menu and can also attend an over-the-top tequila tasting with more than 10 different varieties.
"Cinco de Mayo is one of our favorite days of the year and a great excuse to throw a huge party," said Garces. "We’ll be serving Mexican snacks, dancing to a great DJ and of course, drinking tequila all night long."
The festivities will begin downstairs at 3 p.m. with UPenn student, DJ Lips, spinning music along with some of her own mashups to get the party going.
The menu will feature what organizers are calling affordable authentic fare, such as guacamole, esquites, nachos, grilled steak and chicken alambres and assorted tacos ranging in price from 5 to 7 bucks.
Guests can also complement their dishes with delicious $5 margaritas.
Party-goers can take the celebration to the next “level” by going to the private dining room on the second floor for a tequila tasting and authentic Mexican dinner.
The tequila tasting starts at 8 and is limited to 80 guests. It costs $35 in advance or $45 at the door, so act fast to reserve your spot.
The tequila menu will feature fun flavors like Wild Shot, Don Roberto, El Mayor, Case Dragons, Espolon and many more.
Distrito has been featured in magazines such as Food & Wine, GQ, Glamour and Bon Appetit and was named Modern Mexican Restaurant of 2008 and one of the world’s top 50 restaurants by Philadelphia Magazine.
The restaurant was also named one of the best new restaurants in the country in 2008 by Esquire and the best overall new restaurant of 2008 by the Inquirer.
