The Phillies have agreed to a minor league contract with pitcher Matt Anderson, the top pick in the 1997 amateur draft.
The Phillies announced the move Friday. Anderson hasn't pitched in the majors since July 2005 with Colorado and his last professional season was 2008, when he had a 5.60 ERA in 15 relief appearances for Triple-A Charlotte.
The 34-year-old righty will report to Philadelphia's minor league camp in spring training.
Anderson was drafted No. 1 overall by Detroit in 1997 out of Rice University. He made his big league debut the following year and saved 22 games for the Tigers in 2001.
In seven major league seasons, Anderson has a 15-7 record with a 5.19 ERA and 26 saves.
