Eagles Injury Update: DeSean Jackson and Darren Sproles Returning to Practice This Week

DeSean Jackson and Darren Sproles will both be back at practice Wednesday but in a limited role and with no guarantees that they'll be able to play Sunday, head coach Doug Pederson said Monday.

Jackson hasn't played since the early moments of the Eagles' Week 2 loss to the Falcons because of a abdominal injury, and Sproles hasn't played since the win over the Jets with a quad.

"DeSean as part of his rehab and his protocol, we can incorporate him back into practice a little bit on Wednesday and see where he's at as the week progresses," Pederson said. "And Darren Sproles, kind of the same way as he continues to rehab and get healthy, we can incorporate him a little bit this week and see where he's at week's end."

The Eagles face the Bears on Sunday at the Linc and then have a week off before home games against the Patriots and Seahawks.

Sproles, 36, and Jackson, 32, rank first and ninth in all-purpose yards among active NFL players.

Sproles, now in his sixth year with the Eagles, has played in only 14 games since the 2017 season began, missing 31 of a possible 45 games with injuries.

Jackson had two 50-yard TD catches in the opener against the Redskins. Those remain the Eagles' two-longest pass plays this year.

Pederson said rookie running back Miles Sanders, who hurt his shoulder Sunday in Buffalo after netting 118 yards on six touches, underwent additional tests Monday morning back in Philadelphia.

"Miles is going to be OK," he said. "We had further testing today and it came back positive so we're going to take him day-by-day this week and see where he's at later in the week."

The outlook isn't quite so good on Nigel Bradham and Jason Peters, who both got hurt in the Vikings game, Bradham with an ankle, Peters with a knee. Pederson said. Tim Jernigan, out since Week 2, is also still a ways away, Pederson said.

There is good news for slot corner Avonte Maddox, who should be able to play Sunday barring any setbacks.

Maddox, who suffered a concussion and neck injury in a scary collision during the Packers game, has missed four games but returned to practice on Friday running scout team and is on track to practice all this week.

"He'll be back in the mix in practice this week, we're excited about that," Pederson said.

If Maddox is healthy, he would join Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills as key members of the secondary who've missed significant time this year who would all be back on the field.

Orlando Scandrick played in the slot for three games in Maddox's absence and Sidney Jones played the slot Sunday in Buffalo.
