Vince Velasquez to Make Rehab Start Wednesday With Double A Reading

Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez will make a rehab start Wednesday with Double A Reading, the pitcher said Monday.

Velasquez has been out since June 9 with a right biceps strain. Velasquez has downplayed the severity of the injury, and thinks he may need only one rehab start.

With Velasquez out, Zach Eflin has made two starts for the Phillies. It is unclear whether Eflin or struggling left-hander Adam Morgan (1-6, 6.49 ERA) will be the odd man out when Velasquez returns.

Velasquez, who is 5-2 with a 3.65 ERA, left his June 8 start after just two pitches. Over his first eight outings, the 24-year-old went 5-1 with a 2.42 ERA and .197 opponents' batting average, a stretch highlighted by a 16-strikeout, complete game blanking of the Padres on April 14. However, over his previous four starts (including June 8), the right-hander has an 8.10 ERA with a .379 opponents' batting average.

On the mend
Reliever Dalier Hinojosa will begin a rehab assignment Monday with Class A Clearwater. He hasn't pitched since injuring his hand on a comebacker on April 28.
