Jason Kelce shed a little bit of insight Wednesday into what went wrong with Danny Watkins.
 
The Eagles drafted both Watkins and Kelce in 2011 with wildly disparate results.
 
Watkins, an interior offensive lineman out of Baylor, was the 23rd pick overall but was released by the Eagles after just two years and was out of the NFL after three years.
 
Kelce, an interior offensive lineman out of Cincinnati, was the 191st pick overall and has gone on to a Pro Bowl career with the Eagles.
 
The Eagles blew the first-round pick and nailed the sixth-round pick.
 
Why was Watkins a disaster?

Kelce raised his name Wednesday while discussing rookie offensive lieman Halapoulivaati Vaitai, who will make his first career start Sunday, when the Eagles face the Redskins.
 
Kelce was asked what advice he has for Vaitai, who will start at right tackle in place of suspended Lane Johnson.
 
“I give the same advice I always give young players,” Kelce said at his locker. “Just go out and play. Don’t overthink things. Because the worst thing you can do as a young player is you get beat one time and you’re thinking about so many things — your first start, your first time going up against this caliber opponent — and then all of a sudden you get edged and you start overthinking things. ‘I gotta do this, I gotta do that.’
 
“Refocus yourself, do the little things, the little techniques that will put you in a good position to be successful, and also it allows you to  play fast. You don’t want to be thinking about all these other things. Possibilities, scenarios, whatnot, that slows your game down.”
 
This is where Kelce raised the name of Watkins, who was benched six games into his second season.
 
“That was one thing that I actually thought Danny Watkins was terrible at,” Kelce said. “He had a really bad habit of letting things get into his head and then mistakes would compound themselves.
 
“So I think ever since playing with Danny I’ve tried to tell that to guys going in there.”
