McNabb: I Must Have Been Too Old

Two days after the Easter Surprise, former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb got his big debut in his new town and with his new team -- officially.

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan introduced McNabb -- who he met for the first time yesterday -- saying the two men had a lot in common.

"Two guys from Chicago. Two guys starting out with a fresh start. That sounds better than being fired, right?" said Shanahan, who said they were also two guys with one big goal in common -- to win Super Bowls.

McNabb echoed the Super Bowl sentiment and said he was excited to be working with Shanahan.

The former Eagles quarterback sounded like he was not only surprised by the trade, but still stung by apparently being seen as "too old" for the Eagles.

"They're rebuilding. They're going young," McNabb said about the Eagles. "I never knew 33 was too old, but I guess that's too old."

Age and experience was a big plus for Shanahan, who started working with John Elway when Elway was 34.

"When I went to Denver, John Elway was in his 13th year" and they won two back-to-back Super Bowls together.

McNabb's experience would "set the tempo for the rest of the team," Shanahan said. "So I felt very, very fortunate for this to come about."

Donovan said after 11 years in Philly he had only one thing he wanted to say to the fans:

"Thank you."

McNabb said he was nothing but grateful for his time and opportunity here but that change can be good.

"I'm starting a new chapter in the Book of Donovan, and I'm looking for great things to happen."
