Mike Brown Memorial Tree Chopped Down in Ferguson

A memorial tree for Michael Brown was chopped down just after it was planted at a park in Ferguson, Missouri, in the memory of the teen who was shot dead by police in the town, officials said. Vandals damaged the memorial and stole a plaque from its base Saturday or Sunday morning, a spokesman for the St. Louis suburb said. A second tree, dedicated to another local resident in memory of a deceased pet, was also damaged after it was planted Saturday. Both trees were replaced Monday by city officials, the local NBC affiliate reported; Brown's had been donated initially by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association in Chicago.
