Students and their families will pay about 3 percent more for tuition and technology fees at Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned universities.
The board of governors of the State System of Higher Education met by teleconference Monday afternoon. They voted nearly unanimously on 2012-13 tuition rates and technology fees.
For in-state undergraduates, a 3 percent increase in tuition and technology fees will mean an extra $198. The annual tuition bill will rise to just over $6,400.
Out-of-state undergraduates who pay anywhere from one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half times as much, will also see a 3 percent increase.
Nearly 120,000 students are enrolled in the state universities at Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.
The state-owned universities and Pa.'s state-related schools, including Temple and Penn State, were spared cuts in the new state budget and will stay at the same level of funding as the previous year. They also agreed to keep any tuition hikes as low as possible for the fall.
