Bank Customer Helps Police Catch Robbery Suspect

On the way out of the Sovereign Bank in Folsom on Thursday, a suspicious man dropped some cash on the floor.  When a customer pointed out the money to the man, he replied, "don't worry about it."

The customer thought that was suspicious, and decided to follow.  He got into his car and began trailing the suspicious man, who was driving away in a green SUV.  The customer called in his position to Ridley police, who took over the pursuit.

According to authorities, the suspicious man, Timothy Christopher Murray, had robbed the Sovereign Bank of $7,000.  He passed a note to the teller there shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday, demanding cash and insinuating that he was carrying a weapon, police said.  Murray was assisted in the robbery by Nakia Stokes, who was driving the getaway car, authorities said.

When police took up the pursuit, they followed the two to a cul-de-sac at the end of Armstrong Avenue.  The responding officers blocked the street with their patrol vehicle.  But instead of stopping, the suspected bank robbers drove at the police car and accelerated.  Officers fired at the car, hitting the tires and passenger side door.

The vehicle escaped the cul-de-sac and drove on to South Avenue, fish-tailing.

More officers responded to the chase, and they followed the SUV to the intersection of Franklin and South Avenues, in the Secane section.  One of the suspects attempted to run from the vehicle, but authorities slammed the car's door on the man, pinning him by the leg.

Ridley authorities said the two may be connected to another bank robbery that took place earlier in the week at the Sharon Savings Bank.
