Man Struck, Killed by Train in North Jersey

New Jersey Transit says a man was struck and killed by a train in northern New Jersey.

Officials say 52-year-old Jorge Acila, of Hackensack, was lying on the tracks when he was struck around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in Hackensack. But why the man was there remains under investigation.

Acila was struck by a westbound Pascack Valley Line train, which was traveling from Hoboken to Spring Valley, New York.

About 300 passengers were aboard the four-car train along with crew members, but no injuries were reported. The passengers eventually were moved to NJ Transit buses to complete their journeys.

Train service was suspended for more than three hours in the area where the accident occurred.
