Eric Darden, 21, was sentenced to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison for a deadly carjacking outside an Atlantic city casino.
Darden, of Camden, pleaded guilty to felony murder in December for his role in the September 2011 carjacking that killed Sunil Rattu, of Old Bridge, N.J. and injured his girlfriend Radha Ghetia of Parlin, N.J.
The couple was in Atlantic City to celebrate their graduation from nursing school, Rattu's family told NBC10.
Two other men are also charged in the deadly carjacking. Phillip Byrd, 21, and Raheem D. Simmons, 19, both of Camden, are awaiting trial.
Investigators say the three men forced the couple at gunpoint to drive several blocks away from the Trump Taj Mahal Casino to an alley near the 500 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard. That's where they shot Rattu multiple times and shot Ghetia once, according to police.
Darden will not be eligible for parole for at least 30 years.
