A horse has returned home to his home pasture in northwestern Pennsylvania after two years of treatment for the burns he suffered when he was doused with accelerant and set on fire.
Northstar is bathed daily with an antibacterial agent and treated regularly with burn cream and anti-itch ointment. He's muzzled and lightly sedated at night to keep him from scratching, and kept out of the sun to prevent his delicate skin from burning.
The Erie Times-News reports that owner Jessie Woodworth says the 8-year-old gelding is still loving, trusting and calm.
Northstar received skin grafts at Ohio State's veterinary school and then spent time recuperating on private farms.
No one's been arrested in Northstar's attack, although the Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to a conviction.
