Pa. Man Broke Out of Cuffs for Sanitizer: Cops

Authorities say a Northampton man who briefly got out of his handcuffs after being arrested for drunken driving said he needed to get a nearby bottle of hand sanitizer.

Police say Nazareth resident Jeffrey Barlow was arrested in Bethlehem early Wednesday after an officer saw his vehicle driving without headlights.

The 22-year-old was arrested for alleged drunken driving and taken to the police station. While there, police say he struck his handcuffs against a bench and disengaged the lock.

The Morning Call of Allentown reports he made it only a few steps before an officer spotted him on camera. Police say Barlow told the officer, β€œat least let me get some hand sanitizer while I'm up.”

It could not immediately be determined if Barlow had an attorney.
