11 Women Hurt When Van Flips

Police suspect other driver was under the influence

Nearly one dozen women were hurt in a suspected DUI crash that left a van flipped over this morning.

Medics rushed to the intersection of Rhawn Street and Torresdale Avenue in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The white van completely turned over when it collided with a car.

At least 11 women in the work detail van were hurt, according to Philadelphia Police on location.

The full extent of the injuries weren't known but most appeared minor, according to police.

The driver of the other vehicle is suspected of driving under the influence, police said. The driver of that car was arrested and is expected to be charged later in the day.

This was just one of a handful of wrecks around the rain-soaked region Wednesday morning. The biggest backups came when a tractor-trailer split in two along the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76 West).
